National Quilting Day YouTube
Happy National Quilting Day! In 1992 Quilter's Alliance and the National Quilt Museum started this day as a celebration of quilting. This year the focus is on labeling and sharing your quilts.
Deb has a great video message for us about this day, and in particular, sharing your quilts! We've teamed up with Tucker University to benefit Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We want to get kids off the floor, into a bed, and under a quilt! We formed Quilts Across America - QAA to make this dream a reality.
Quilters are known for their generous hearts and talented hands. Celebrate National Quilting Day and share your love of quilting with children in need!
Be sure to follow QAA on social media for more information.

    I just found your videos. They are excellent, and have introduced me to a whole new world. I am a very beginner quilter. I started making I spy quilts for my grandchildren, just 4 1/2 inch blocks of two matching squares. They can use it as an I spy, and a matching quilt. I put the soft minky material on the back, and they love it. I have wanted to branch out, and I am loving how the quilts that look so complicated, have such fun and easier ways to make them. You are a wonderful teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    If one were to make a 56" strip set for the 12" finished block size would it be preferable to piece the strip from the cross grain or cut the strips from the straight of grain?

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design 24 дні тому

      Sticking with cutting them on the straight of grain will make the outside edges just a bit more stable than if they are cut on the cross grain.

    Please help. Is the Square Squared 2 an updated version of the Square Squared Original tool, and does it function the same as the original?

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design 28 днів тому

      I believe that you are talking about the same tool. We just changed the name as the tool Square 2 was a math reference and caused some confusion, so we updated the name to Square Squared (written out). So if you have the original tool it works the same. I would suggest watching our Tips and Tricks episode Square Squared and Beyond. Can be found on the Square Squared playlist. This video explains the differences between the original and updated tool. But they function in the same.

    Thank you for this video. I have the corner pop2 and 3 because I just had to make the pyramid pattern. Both those rulers cost were expensive but worth it to me just for that pattern alone. What I didn't realize is how little patterns are made with them. I bought the bauble pattern and intend to make that but I am so glad I have now found another block I can make and get my moneys worth out of these rulers. I happen to have the tucker trimmer so I am golden here. Since I do not have all the design 180 rulers, I am limited to the beautiful squares you create. If I knew how to download a picture here, I'd send my pyramid quilt. It will soon be my new bedspread after I finish the binding.

    I’m trimming it like I’m supposed to but I’m supposed to have a 4 and half finished square and keep ending up with 5 inches if I trim it according to directions

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design 2 місяці тому

      When we talk about finished and unfinished sizes it is sometimes different than other designers. We define finished size as when it is in the quilt and all the seams are sewn. Unfinished or cut size we define as the size it is on the cutting mat after all the trimming is done before you sew the unit into a project. So if you follow the directions and make a 4 1/2" finished unit is will measure 5" on the cutting mat. If you want a unit that measures 4 1/2" on the cutting mat then you will want to make a 4" finished unit. I hope this helps please let me know if you have have more questions.

    Question; why do you use what appears to be 65 degrees and not 60 as is most common for your diamonds. You are a good instructor you get to point.

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design 4 місяці тому

      The reason that this isn't a 60 degree diamond is because this one is specifically designed to be part of a rectangle that has a 2:1 ratio. Because it is designed to fit in the specific rectangle that changes the angles of the diamond. This ratio is traditionally used in Storm at Sea quilts. If you are looking for a 60 degree tool check out my Star 60 video.

    Does the instructions have a suggestion for how much extra material one should buy? I’m looking at purchasing Journey for a bit ago, but had never seen your tools. Wondering how to adjust other patterns. I’m rural. And rarely get out to a quilt store, especially since some of the closer ones have closed in recent years, so I have to know how much material to get, can’t get extra later. Also lost all my stash in a flood in 2017, so I’m not scrap quilting anytime soon.

    • @DebTuckersStudio180Design
      @DebTuckersStudio180Design 4 місяці тому

      We don't give recommendations in the instructions on how much extra to purchase but we do give the information for what you have to cut to make them oversized. In most cases, customers have let us know that they haven't needed extra fabric beyond what is on the pattern back cover. Because depending on the method used in the pattern you might be saving fabric. But if you worry an extra 1/4 yard is usually all you need in most cases if you get really nervous go for a 1/2 yard but that really is way more than you will need. Let me know if you have more questions.

    I love this tool, I recently started quilting and I wanted to give this hunter star a try. This tool made it soooo easy and my star came out perfectly. I’m glad I got this tool and I’m going to make a Hunter’s star quilt. 💗👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Don’t know how I’ve never seen your videos, but I found you today. I’ve been watching for 5 hours! Yep. Love them. Love stars and now love your tools, which I’ll be purchasing. On a wonderful side note I also love how you coordinate your wardrobe to the quilt behind you. So classy! Thank you for your knowledge.

    Buenas tardes. Acabo de encontrar este video pues necesitaba conocer la técnica. A pesar de que hablo español, entiendo bien el paso a paso porque está bien diseñado el video. ¡ FABULOSO ! gracias por tu enseñanza; eres una gran profesora. La traducción al español es perfecta.

    I would like to have the directions on making the picket fence table runner. Is it available for purchase?

      I am not sure which table runner you are asking about. The Signs of Autumn project uses the same leaf block but in a different configuration. You can find it here: deb-tuckers-studio-180-design.myshopify.com/products/signs-of-autumn?_pos=1&_sid=b600cd8aa&_ss=r
